ACI national recently presented Kyle Poff with its Chapter Activities Award
Kyle Poff has been a critical member of our ACI Nebraska team for more than a decade. He first started out as a member, then he served as a board of director for a 3-year term. During his term as a director, Kyle co-chaired and chaired many committees including our annual awards committee and our certification committee. Kyle has also served as an officer and has moved through the chairs and is the current past President. He has done a remarkable job and has represented the Chapter with passion and professionalism.
When the Chapter recruited Mr. Poff, we needed an active member that could represent the “western” part of the chapter. With a lot of activity always taking place in the Lincoln and Omaha area, the Chapter felt it was crucial to create more activity in the western part of Nebraska. Kyle was our link to make that happen.
Mr. Poff started teaching ACI field testing in 2012 and realized there were limitations in Kearney Nebraska to host ACI Certifications. Hence, Kearney Concrete Company built a small concrete lab with a formal classroom to help facilitate many of the certification classes, as well as other industry meetings. This has made hosting ACI Certification classes a much better experience for the attendees and administrators. Mr. Poff has also acted as a supplemental examiner for many of the certification classed offered in Nebraska included the newly formed Adhesive Anchoring program now offered in Nebraska.
Kyle was also instrumental in the formation of the first ACI Student Chapter in 2013 and 2014 at the University of Nebraska – Kearney. Kearney Concrete Company has always been a supporter of UNK’s construction management program. Kearney Concrete Company has sponsored student chapters attendance to ACI conventions and even local programs. Unfortunately, UNK cut the student chapter in 2015 due to new leadership.
It should also be noted that Kyle and his father Stan Poff are the founders of Concrete Cares of Nebraska. The first and currently the only State affiliate of Mike Murrays, Concrete Cares. Formed in 2013, Concrete Cares of Nebraska has donated over $250,000 for local Nebraska families fighting cancer. This has had a profound impact on the ready mix concrete industry, shining a positive light on community service. In addition, just two short years after the formation of Concrete Cares of Nebraska, Mr. Kyle Poff was diagnosed with Leukemia. Kyle has been attending many doctors’ appointments and treatments over the past 6 years but that has never slowed him down. He has never used his diagnosis as an excuse to miss any meeting or programs. Many times, he even may start his day before 4:00am just to make a board meeting or other educational programs. You can see he is tired, but he will never admit it. Therefore, he has always been an inspiration as we have watched him over the past 6 years.
Kyle Poff is the man! He is well respected in the industry and he is very humble. The Nebraska chapter of ACI is proud to have Kyle Poff.
